Data sources
Every number MealFlow shows comes from one of these. None is produced by a language model — the model is asked for ingredients and amounts, and is explicitly forbidden from producing nutrition figures or prices.
Vitamins and minerals
USDA FoodData Central, U.S. Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service. Public domain. Values were taken once, when the database was built, and are not fetched at runtime. fdc.nal.usda.gov
Where we hold no figure for an ingredient, the app says so and counts how many ingredients contributed. It never shows a missing value as zero.
Daily reference values
Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011, Annex XIII — nutrient reference values (NRV) for vitamins and minerals, and reference intakes (RI) for energy and macronutrients. Fibre has neither and is labelled against a dietary guideline instead; sodium has no NRV, so it is shown as an amount with no percentage.
Macronutrients
Hand-curated by us from standard food composition data, complete for every ingredient in the table.
Prices
Hand-curated reference values, recorded 08/2026, for Germany only. They are estimates and are always labelled as such with the month they were recorded. They are not shop prices and they are not offers. For any other country MealFlow says the price is unknown rather than showing a number from somewhere else.
Recipes in the shared database
Extracted from videos by the people who found them. Ingredient lists are facts and are not protected by copyright; preparation steps are written afresh from what is visible and are never copied from a caption or from on-screen text. Every recipe names the creator of the original video where known, and links back to it. Thumbnails are linked from the original platform and are never copied to our storage.
